Scope: Develop an optical fiber based wavelength division multiplex (WDM) local area network (LAN) standard. 1.It should contain the minimum set of requirements for both hardware functions and networking protocols to set up and access the media (optical fiber) for data transfer. 2.Interoperability is a basic requirement. 3.It should allow for the transparent over laying of new and legacy applications 4.It should provide certifiable upgradeability / scalability for future growth5.The standard should have the broadest applicability, including both commercial and military aerospace, as well as a potential variant for datacom (e.g. the optical equivalent to Ethernet)6.The standard should define the requirements for the nodes (e.g. transmission, reception, amplification, bypass) 7.Output of this effort should drive creation of new aircraft cable plant layouts and ultimately avionics architectures 8.Output of this effort should drive the development and integration of components into transceiver chips. 9.A plan for future overlay of analog with initial digital capability should be included
