【摘要】:Bucketaugersarerelativelyinexpensive,readilyavailable,availableindifferenttypesdependingonthemediatobesampled,andmostcanbeeasilyoperatedbyoneperson.Theycollectareasonablycylindricalbutdisturbedsampleofsurfaceorsubsurfacesoilorwaste.Theyaregenerallynotsuitedforsamplinggravellyorcoarsersoilandareunsuitableforsamplingrock.Bucketaugersarecommonlyusedequipmentbecausetheyareinexpensivetooperate,especiallycomparedtopoweredequipment(thatis,directpushanddrillrigs).Whenevaluatedagainstscrewaugers,bucketaugersgenerallycollectlargersampleswithlesschanceofmixingwithsoilfromshallowdepthsbecausethesampleisretainedwithintheaugerbarrel.Bucketaugersarecommonlyusedtodepthsof3mbuthavebeenusedtomuchgreaterdepthsdependinguponthesoilorwastecharacteristics.Thesamplingdepthislimitedbytheforcerequiredtorotatetheaugerandthedepthatwhichtheboreholecollapses(unlessborecasingsorlinersareused).Bucketaugersmaynotbesuitableforthecollectionofsamplesfordeterminationofvolatileorganiccompoundsbecausethesampleisdisturbedduringthecollectionprocess,whichmayleadtolossesresultinginachemicallyunrepresentativesample.1.1Thispracticedescribestheproceduresandequipmentusedtocollectsurfaceandsubsurfacesoilandcontaminatedmediasamplesforchemicalanalysisusingahand-operatedbucketauger(hereafterreferredtoasabucketauger;sometimesreferredtoasabarrelauger).Severaltypesofbucketaugersexistandaredesignedforsamplingvarioustypesofsoil.Allbucketaugerscollectdisturbedsamples,butbucketaugerscanalsobeusedtoaugertothedesiredsamplingdepthandthen,usingacore-typesampler,collectarelativelyundisturbedsample.1.2Thispracticedoesnotcovertheuseoflarge(12-in.orgreaterdiameter)bucketaugersmechanicallyoperatedbylargedrillrigsorsimilarequipment,suchasthosedescribedinPracticeD1452,section3.2.4.1.3Thetermbucketaugerisusedtodifferentiatethistypeofhandoperatedaugerfromothersofthesolidorhollowstemtypesthatarealsohandheldoroperated.1.4Thispracticedoesnotaddresssamplingobjectives(seePracticeD5792),generalsampleplanning(seeGuideD4687),samplingdesign(forexample,wheretocollectsamplesandwhatdepthtosample[seeGuideD6044]),samplingforvolatileorganiccompounds(seeGuideD4547),equipmentcleaninganddecontamination(seePracticeD5088),samplehandlingaftercollectionsuchascompositingandsubsampling(seeGuideD6051),andsamplepreservation.Forinformationonothertypesofaugers,seePracticeD1452andGuideD4700.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
